Tan Thang Cement Plant – Leading technology, towards green production

The trees in the plant premises are not covered with dust, the chimney does not emit smoke, saving up to 30% of electricity... the representative of Tan Thang Cement Plant proudly introduces the technology that helps the environment to be green, clean, safe, and environmentally friendly even though the factory is operated at high intensity.
“Tan Thang Cement Plant has been operating for 5 months and in September-October, we exported the first shipments to the Australian and Chinese markets and the first shipment of sulfate-resistant cement to the US. As you can see, around the plant, the trees are still green and there is no dust. At any location that emits dust, such as the material grinding system, cement grinding, conveyor transfer station, etc., we have equipped it with the most optimal dust filtering equipment to control the dust concentration in the exhaust gas, while saving maximum raw materials,” said Mr. Nguyen Xuan Hung - Deputy Head of Technology Department of TanThang Cement Plant.
TanThang Cement "solve the problem" of environmental protection
To be proud of a green - clean - modern TanThang cement factory is a long effort of the plant's Board of Directors in surveying, researching and building optimal solutions from the project planning stage until the factory goes into operation.
At that time, the staff of TanThang Cement Project had worked hard to study the reality of factories in Southeast Asia and Europe to choose the technology and equipment to best protect the environment. They realized that in cement production, there were some specific problems that needed to be thoroughly solved, especially dust: Dust in the workshop, dust outside the factory, leading to wasted materials and environmental pollution, while also causing electricity consumption... Therefore, TanThang Cement was determined to solve each problem and came to the conclusion: The core of every problem is to implement sustainable development with green technology, friendly to the environment. What is more special, that technology system is not only modern and advanced, the world's leading, but also operated by a team of leading experts in the cement industry domestically and internationally.
TanThang Cement is also a factory with the fastest construction time in Vietnam up to now because the project management team has a lot of experience in coordinating with foreign equipment suppliers, domestic fabrication contractors, and construction units to put the factory into operation in exactly 17 months from the date of piling the first construction item to the test run of the entire equipment line.
Up to now, TanThang Cement Plant has proudly become a green symbol in the cement production industry of Nghe An and is considered a bright spot in the cement industry of Vietnam and the region.
The smokeless chimney is the unique identity of TanThang cement plant in Quynh Luu, Nghe An.
Currently, TanThang Cement Plant is operating with a capacity of 5,000 tons of clinker/day, equivalent to 2 million tons of cement/year, and is expected to expand to a second production line in the future.
However, whether at current capacity or maximum capacity in the future, the representative of TanThang Cement Plant confidently affirms: the environment around the factory will always be maintained green, clean, safe and truly environmentally friendly.
That belief comes from reality from the early days of production and from the 4.0 technologies that TanThang Cement Plant applies in production and environmental management.
Impressive numbers
With a total investment of 5,000 billion VND and consulting from Bac A Commercial Joint Stock Bank, TanThang Cement chose the direction of sustainable development, pioneering in technology to "Create a difference - Build trust". Therefore, the factory has "heavily" invested in the production technology system of the latest generation of the world's leading cement manufacturers.
It is the Atox Mill coal grinding mill of FLSmidth (Denmark). It is a 2-support clinker kiln with an inner diameter of 5m, length of 60.7m, weight of 484 tons (including 6 blocks), using the most advanced technology and equipment of FLSmidth.
It is the world's newest generation vertical mill system supplied by Loesche - Germany. Then there is the modern, high-precision bagging system, producing multi-purpose bag cement for both covered and uncovered vehicles, supplied by Haver & Boecker (Germany).
Most importantly – ABB’s (Switzerland) electrical automation system – the core of 4.0 technology – is at a high level, with centralized control to synchronously control the factory’s operations, connecting electronic, mechanical and environmental technologies together. This system only consumes about 95 KW of electricity/ton of cement, consumes less than 730 kcal/kg of clinker, and experts are very impressed with these numbers, because it is the lowest consumption level in the entire cement industry today.
Inside the factory is operated automatically and no dust is generated
Currently, at TanThang Cement Plant, the output dust concentration is always less than 30mg/Nm3, the cement grinding area is less than 20mg/Nm3. This indicator is completely compliant, even much better than the current State regulation of 100mg/Nm3 in QCVN 23: 2009/BTNMT. The generated dust is completely treated with the most advanced technology: using bag dust filters combined with electrostatic dust filters. All environmental monitoring data are transmitted directly to the Nghe An Department of Natural Resources and Environment for inspection and supervision.
“The current environmental standards at TanThang are on par with the requirements of European standards, exceeding the requirements of Vietnamese standards,” emphasized Mr. Nguyen Xuan Hung, Deputy Head of Technology Department of Tan Thang Cement.
In particular, TanThang has deployed a waste gas thermal power plant under the BOT model. Accordingly, the total power consumption of the plant is from 23-25MW/h, using waste gas thermal power with a generating capacity of 7MW/h, thus saving up to 30% of the total power consumption. The implementation of a waste gas thermal power project to utilize excess heat will help save fuel, reduce dust emissions, and make production activities more environmentally friendly.
After shipments to the US, Australia, and China, this October, TanThang Cement continues to explore new markets and export to the Republic of Kiribati and many other countries.
